Google’s Mini is now two years old! To commemorate the second birthday, the enterprise team has developed an upgrade with greater security features and the ability to search across various business applications, all from the same search box. Google als made the Mini a better fit for public sites by integrating Google Analytics and adding the ability to generate Google Sitemaps. You can find more info on the Google Mini, at the official Google Blog.

Seems Yahoo! has added some more new features to their Site Explorer Service. Beside the Site Explorer Badge (see my post from yesterday) the update contains these new functions:
• Site Authentication using META tags: For those of you who cannot upload an authentication file to your site, such as a blog, you will now be able to authenticate your site in Site Explorer by including an authentication key as part of a META tag on the home page of your site. This is in addition to the existing mechanism of putting a file on your site home directory.
• Detailed Authentication Errors: We now provide detailed errors on authentication failures, making it much easier to diagnose possible problems.
• Delete URLs: For your authenticated sites, you can now delete any URLs from the index. Simply locate the URL in Site Explorer and click on the ‘Delete URL’ button. The URL and all its subpaths will be deleted shortly thereafter. This is meant to work in conjunction with the robots.txt file while providing greater responsiveness. Please continue to use the robots.txt protocol to ensure that our crawler does not crawl pages you want to keep out of our index.

Yahoo added a new feature called live badge to their Site Explorer:
“Add a live badge to your blog or website that queries Site Explorer for the number of links to your site or page on the web. Select the type of link counts you want, the size and look of the badge and then cut and paste the code to your web site.”
And here is what it looks like:

It seems that only 2 weeks after the last PageRank Update another Update is going on.

Google launched a new blog, called “Google Testing Blog“, earlier this week. The Google Engineering Manager, Allen Hutchison, wrote in his “Welcome Post”:
“We decided to start this blog to share our experiences with the rest of the developer community, and so that we can learn about some of your smart solutions to the same sorts of problems. From unit testing to performance testing and beyond, the testing umbrella is vast, and hopefully this blog will be the start of a great conversation about these important issues. Whether you’re already deeply immersed in the world of testing or just starting to get your feet wet, we hope that this blog will help spread our enthusiasm about testing and help you to write better code.We don’t have all the answers, but we have gained a lot of experience and we are anxious to share it with you!”

Yahoo! released the financial results for the year 2006 earlier today.
“I am pleased with the progress Yahoo! made in the fourth quarter. We successfully addressed many of the challenges we faced in the third quarter and made aggressive moves to deliver on a number of strategic goals that we set forth for the organization,†said Terry Semel, chairman and CEO of Yahoo!.
“I am confident that our new structure and concentrated focus on Yahoo!’s key priorities puts us in the best position to take advantage of the many opportunities that we see ahead for 2007 and beyond.â€

Microsoft recently announced the launch of two new programs to help children in need. All that you have to do, to help them is to try Live Search on one of the “click for the cause†sites, and each search you do will add more money to Microsoft’s donation. The two organizations Microsoft is working with in these programs are ninemillion.org and Team Seattle.
Ninemillion.org is a United Nations led campaign providing education and sports programs for nine million refugee youth around the world, and Team Seattle is the most successful motorsports charity in the US, racing to benefit Seattle’s Children’s Hospital.
You can find more information about the programms on the Live Search blog.

Priyank Garg from Yahoo! posted the following on the Yahoo! Search Blog:
“We are in the process of rolling out some changes to our search results. As usual, you may be seeing some changes in ranking as well as some shuffling of the pages that are included in the index throughout this process. This update began last night and should be complete very soon.”
I’m seeing a lot of spammy results right now - hope the update is not over yet!
